Israeli painter Porat presents Interview with Kafka in Prague (From Czech News Agency)

PRAGUE, Jan 19 2004 (CTK) - An exhibition by Israeli painter Jacob Porat dubbed Interviews with Kafka opened at the New Town Hall in Prague today under the auspices of the Czech Culture Ministry and the Israeli embassy.
Porat's work deals with his difficult childhood, his examination of Jewish and Israeli identity and with accepting the events of the past, Dana Wagnerova from the Israeli embassy told CTK today.
Porat was born in Poland and studied the violin in Tel Aviv, while also earning a diploma in Hebrew literature, Biblical studies and comparative literature. He studied visual arts at the Avni Institute.
He later taught literature and Bible studies at a secondary school.
Porat's strengths are his technique, composition and themes, as well as his instinct as an artist.
He uses various mediums, including photographs, music and literature to express himself, Wagnerova said.

Conversations with Kafka: Works by Jacob Porat

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC.- An exhibition of works by Jacob Porat is currently on view at the Embassy of Israel in Prague until February 25. The paintings of Jacob Porat are a tribute to Prague, Kafka’s home city. The exhibition also consists of photographed sites in Prague as well as pen drawings made by Kafka. The show is arranged in layers, and the longer one looks at the paintings, the more details are discovered and layers uncovered. The viewers form part of the exhibition as well, interpreting the meaning of the works as they peel off layer after layer.

The search for different, various forms of _expression describes Jacob Porat’s works. His paintings have a life of their own, and these lives have been an integral part of his works since he has begun painting to date. Porat’s continuous pursuit is associated with his search for Jewish and Israeli identity through painting, literature, music, and photograph

Jacob Porat Press Reviews and Articles

"Wystawa ta jest proba konfrontacji pomiedzy swiatem Kafki a swiatem Jacoba Porata" - celnie konstatuje prof. Nurit Govrin z Tel-Aviv University.
